Eid

                       Eid ईद

Eid is the most important festival of Muslims. Mus lims celebrate three Eids during the year.

Ramzan is a month of fasting. It is a very strict and Muslims do not even drink a sip of water during the day. The fast is broken daily after sunset. After a month-long fasting the Ramzan Eid is celebrated on the day of the following new moon. This festival is formally termed Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bakri Eid is celebrated in the memory of Hazrat Ismail's sacrifice. This festival falls about two months and nine days after Eid-ul-Fitr. It is for this festival that Muslims who can afford, go on a pilgrimage to Mecca. This pilgrimage is known as Hajj. This festival is formally known as Eid-ul-Zuha. The third Eid is celebrated with great enthusiasm. It is called Eid-i-Milad and it is commemorates the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.

Each Eid day starts with morning prayers at the mosques. People wear new clothes and greet each other affectionately. Eid is all about forgetting old differences and coming together to begin anew
