Types of Noun and test
A noun is the name of a person, place ,animal ,thing, feeling ,state or quality.
Different types of noun
1) Common Noun
A common noun is the common name of all persons, places, animals or things which are of the same kind. Ex. Cat ,door , doctor, cupboard , shoes, city , ocean ,book ,river ,flower, month, animal , boy, girl, etc.
2) Proper noun
A proper noun is the special name given to a person ,place ,animal or thing.We have to write first letter capital of proper noun. Ex. Ram, January, Sunflower Ganga, Sita, India ,France, Godavari, etc.
3) Collective noun
A collective noun is the name given to a group of people, animals or thingsEx. Shoal, herd, army, fleet,Team ,gang ,class ,set ,flock, colony, pack , bunch, etc
4) Concrete noun
Concrete nouns are the names of things that we can see ,touch and feel.Ex. Tree, mango, bag ,school, etc
5) Abstract nouns
Abstract nouns are the names of things ,feelings, ideas ,qualities or states which we cannot touch or see but only feel.
We can form abstract nouns from verbs, adjectives and common nouns.
Ex.
Brave - Bravery
Friend - Friendship
Child - Childhood
True -. Truth
Wise - Wisdom
6) Compound Noun
Compound nouns are nouns formed by joining two or more nouns.The meaning of the compound noun can sometimes be completely different from the words used to form it.
Ex.
time + table = timetable
black + board. = blackboard
News + paper = Newspaper
bed + room = bedroom
tea + pot = teapot
table + cloth = tablecloth
basket + ball = basketball
hair + pin = hairpin
Match + box = Matchbox
hand + bag = handbag etc.
